Cavan has defied its reputation for penny-pinching and appears to be one of Ireland’s most romantic spots, splashing out more than double last year’s spend on Valentine’s Day treats.
Lovebirds across the country snapped up romantic gifts, with spending on spa breaks up 62%, grooming and beauty treatments up 58%, jewellery up 47%, chocolates up 46% and perfume up 13%, according to Bank of Ireland’s Spending Pulse.
However, Cavan led the way in Valentine’s Day spending, at 126% more compared to last year.
People in Offaly spent an extra 49%, Wicklow was up 38% and Roscommon and Sligo were both up 29% in spending on romantic gifts compared to last year. Things were a little more downbeat on the spending front elsewhere in Ireland.
